Nice And Quiet Cottage, No Crowds Just Simple And Beautiful
This cottage is located over about 9+ acres and has fantastic views looking out over St. Joe Bay and the Old Saltworks Pond. Dug during the Civil War to produce salt! Enjoy the beautiful sunrises and gulf breezes on your screened porch or the open deck. The cabin is a suite, large room with full kitchen, seating and eating area and sleeping area. NEW Kitchen has stove top, fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, toaster oven, and outside charcoal grill. Has table with 4 chairs. Seating area has two over sized stuffed chairs and ottomans to relax and read or watch the nice TV, DVD and WIFI. Has comfortable queen size bed. A bath with shower. Downstairs is covered parking and also a hot and cold outside shower. Just a short walk down to the boardwalk and all the Bay activities or just relax by the bay. (Great place for scallop season, too)
Private (can't see any neighbors). Come "experience" the Bay side of the Cape. In a short distance you can still go and enjoy the beaches, too! Best of both worlds.

The property has several cabins located back off the main road on the bay side. It is quiet and wooded. The view of the bay from our cabin was beautiful and there is a view of the bay from most of the other cabins. There are two boardwalks, both need a little work, but they get you out into the bay where you can explore all kinds of sea creatures, fish or just enjoy wading in the shallow water. Just a note, the boardwalk in the photo of the Lookout cabin is actually located on the private property next door. It is not part of the Saltwork Cabins property. The cabins themselves are laid back, no fuss cabins, with just the basic necessities but ours had everything we could possibly need and was very comfortable. No one bothered us, we almost felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. The owners were great to work with, all in all we could not have enjoyed our stay more. We will definitely be coming back!
Glad you had a good stay, do come back soon!
Great location, great grounds, super chill vibe. Wish for better bed and linens. Kitchen nicely equipped despite no oven --but there is a toaster oven. It is amusing to listen to the conversations in the pool next door, which can't be seen, just heard.
Thank you, we didn't know about the bed....must be time to change it! Will also check on the linens. We usually have very good linen service. Thank you for being a great guest and leaving our place nice and clean, too! Do come back soon.
Hi Rachel--this is John Hoffmann. We stayed at the Lookout Cabin 3/22-29. Everything was fine except that for the first couple of nights the overnite temps went into the 40,s/low 50's and we could have used a blanket for the bed. We had a bedspread and sheet, we used the space heaters. I'm sharing this w/you for your reference. Otherwise the cabin looks good and it has been updated from many years ago when we stayed there--take care, John.
Oh my, you should have had a blanket! Usually 2! So Sorry, wish you had called us. Glad you liked the updates....hope to see you soon
quiet and secluded perch overlooking the bay--great spot for a solo get away or couple--one big room with 'kitchen'--comfy queen size bed and small but ok bathroom. Included also were cable and internet that worked well. It was chilly during our stay(March) so the included space heaters were needed--ceiling fans moved the air well. While there are other 'cabins' on the property they aren't really seen at all--the deck is great for relaxing with a beverage but have bug spray!!!! We wish there would have been accommodations for recycling but there were none on property. This is our favorite part of Florida and wouldn't hesitate to rent here again. Rachael(and staff) were quick to solve any issues(?ions)
Glad you enjoyed your stay in spite of the unusual cooler weather! Thank you for coming and do hurry back!
Being on 7 acres of private property was very desirable for us and our border collie. We live in the north woods of Wisconsin on a lake bordering 40 acres of state land. Being able to let her freely roam and being able to enjoy the deck, screened -In porch, and close proximity to several dog friendly beaches were definitely assets that we appreciated. The owners were exceptionally accommodating and wonderfully friendly.
Glad you had a good stay! We enjoyed having you. Do come back soon
Thanks for a lovely weekend. The weather was cold (not your fault!) but the accommodations were as described in the listing. Neighbors were quiet, beach and state park are a short drive down the road. Since the weather did not always cooperate, we stayed in quite a bit and took advantage of the cable tv and kitchen at the cabin. Thanks again.
Thank you. Glad you liked the place. The weather wasn't our normal though. It was COLD! Do come back...I promise better weather!!
The Lookout Cabin has been upgraded, since the photos I had seen. It was perfect for me, and my pup. I was there over Veteran’s Day weekend 2017. The view of the Bay, is breathtaking. I practiced yoga everyday on the deck, under the pine trees. I rented a bike from Happy Ours, which is 1/2 mile away. The bike path along Cape is very nice for those that like walking, running, and cycling. The grounds of the Old Saltworks Cabins’, is like stepping back in time. My great great Grandfather died in the Civil War, so I am fascinated by the history of the area. I liked it so much, I have already booked my next trip.
Thank you! Glad you had a good time and look forward to seeing you again!
We absolutely loved our stay. The owners were so great, and the cabin was perfect for us and our 2 dogs. The beach was beautiful, and the pups loved it. It's not a tourist town at all, so don't expect any nightlife or loud parties. Most restaurants close around 8:00 so plan to eat early! We did have some wildlife which was awesome. We saw a couple of raccoons some nights when we were up late enough, and one night we caught lots of baby geckos around our porch light. We have a gecko at home so we were so excited! We can't wait to come back and try more adventures!
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed your stay! We love our "wildlife" and our "quiet life", here, too! Best of both worlds! Do come back soon. Lots more to see!
